Spring Break 2017

It’s nearly that time of year again when we welcome thousands of students to the sun-drenched Grand Oasis Cancun; the heart of Cancun’s Spring Break celebrations. This year we have our biggest event yet, from February 4th to April 14th our Beach Club welcomes some of the biggest names in dance so we’ve prepared you a guide to who will be performing to get you in the partying mood.

That’s Entertainment

At Oasis Hotels & Resorts we pride ourselves on the entertainment we offer our guests, from daily shows to live concerts and sporting events. Located in the Grand Oasis Cancun (The Entertainment Resort), the recently expanded Oasis Arena plays host to many of these events and has quickly become a heavyweight in Cancun entertainment.

The home of Cancun boxing

Boxing is not only popular in Mexico; at Oasis it has also taken centre stage on many occasions. Previous world champions such as ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley, Jhonny Gonzalez and Juan Carlos Salgado have thrilled spectators with their pugilistic prowess at the Arena, and last March the venue made boxing history as host to the first female heavyweight world title fight in Mexico. Last December work was completed on its expansion doubling its capacity from 2,000 to 4,000 for showcasing fights and cementing itself as the home of Cancun boxing and an important venue for national and international bouts.

Boxing is not the only contact sport that has been held at the Arena, in 2013 a night of mixed martial arts took place with Mexican champions taking on their American counterparts for an exhilarating night in the cage. With its recent expansion, even larger sporting events are in the pipeline.

Music to your ears

Since its inauguration in 2012, the venue has played host to the annual Oasis Jazz U festival bringing together not only renowned jazz artists but also international artists from other musical genres such as Gloria Gaynor, Chaka Khan and Eddie Palmieri. In 2014 the festival payed homage to Spanish flamenco guitarist and local resident Paco de Lucia who had passed away a few months earlier. Friends and family took to the stage for what were three emotionally charged nights celebrating the life of this flamenco legend, with ticket proceeds going to the Oasis Foundation charity.

Following the success of 2012’s Coyote Country Festival in the Coyote Loco bar at Grand Oasis Cancun the following year a similar event was held in the Arena. The Oasis Country Cancun Fest brought stars from the country music scene to the Mexican Caribbean for five nights of pure Americana.

Oasis and its Arena also played host to several concerts of last year’s Cancun International Music Festival, including both the opening and closing ceremony. Highlights included Mexico’s Women’s Symphonic Orchestra and 10-time Grammy award winning artist Arturo Sandoval who graced the stage delighting audiences with exceptional performances.

On the rare occurrence of heavy rain, even the odd Spring Break event has been moved to the Arena creating an electric atmosphere and making sure the weather doesn’t dampen the revellers spirits.

The future’s bright

The Oasis Arena currently hosts four weekly shows free for all guests to attend; Wonderland, Viva Mexico, Cabaret Latino and Cuban Explosion Night performed by our professional entertainment team and giving you a flavour of what our hotels have to offer.

The newly expanded venue looks forward to hosting even bigger events and welcoming you for an unforgettable night of glitz and glamour and fantastic entertainment!
